This year the 117 cedarbounders are accompanied by a staff of 13, including
6 administrators and a nurse. The group arrived in Lebanon on the 18th and
are planning to stay through the 26th of January. The group is scheduled to
visit with the Prime Minister of Lebanon Mr. Rafiq Hariri in his palace in
Qreitem this Friday. After that the group will visit downtown Beirut. During
their stay the group will also visit the town of Byblos.
The Al Mawakeb administration wishes to thank its parents for the continued
trust they choose to place in us. It is very appreciated, and remains the
biggest drive behind our achievements.
Tuesday 20st of Jan
Our dear parents
We have spent the last two days getting used to the cold and beautiful
weather in the highest mountains of the Middle East. Let us update you about
the last two days and forgive us for not being in touch with you sooner.
We arrived safe, sound and cold to the cedars and immediately went to
measure up for ski boots and skis. An awesome view developed in front of our
eyes… the sun was setting over a sea of clouds…everything below us… the
colors were shades of combined rainbows setting over a bonfire…absolutely
wonderful…the cold, crisp wind kept us awake and fresh… we were slowly
becoming mountain people…our right for this …we were very happy that we
came…each one of us thanked you in his way for letting this happen…
We woke up the second day to a frozen plane... The roads were covered with a
mirrored sheet of water…the snow was rock solid… the trees and the valleys
were white…
We started our skiing week early and fresh…all of us excited and slightly
afraid we must say…within the hour we had fallen… gotten up and fallen
again…but every time we would get up… some of us did not fall as often… some
of us did not get up as fast…it was a lot of fun…by midday we had a tan and
we could now ski. We still needed help but we were falling a lot less now
and we could get up a lot faster… We were on our way.
Some of us underestimated the cold… they have been uncomfortable today…So
Nurse Karam got busy and every one feels a lot better this evening…we all
learnt a lesson, we will never take the cold too lightly again.
By the way it is very surprising, but they do not have a city center in the
cedars… we thought every town had one.
Tomorrow we will start early again… the better skiers are starting to
snowboard now and our ski instructors are promising to take them to the high
slopes… those are the daring ones…
We have been promised good weather for the next 2 days. They say that this
Friday a storm is coming, if it does not arrive we will make one… it will be
our last night here and we do not plan to leave quietly…
During the day this Friday, we are scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister
of Lebanon, His Excellency Mr. Rafiq Hariri. On our way to him we will pass
by ancient city of Byblos and we shall walk the Phoenecian pathways once
more.
We have been promised an authentic Lebanese lunch with the traditional Dabke
and Lebanese drums for the farewell lunch. We look forward to that…
We will update you soon on the coming events… check out our pictures from
the web page and email us so we feel more at home…
We miss you a little bit…
